Gender Reveal
A new ‘in’ thing to do in the baby world, is a gender reveal party! It is obviously not required, but just another cute moment to take photos, instagram and remember the moment with your family and friends. The other option is to do your own reveal at home with your S.O. and post on social media. We had a small gender reveal my mom threw for me when we were finding out about our first. It was just around when gender reveals were becoming an event.
On the day of the anatomy ultrasound, we told the lab technician from the very start that we did not want to know the gender of our baby just yet. We took the route that neither of us knew until party day. We asked the technician if at the end of the appointment she could write the gender of the baby in an envelope we provided. We then asked the receptionist to talk to the woman at my bakery (I set up the call on my phone and handed it to her after walking away so I could not overhear) and tell them the gender. The bakery than proceeded to make the icing inside the cake the color of the gender (blue for boy, pink for girl). The ladies at the hospital did not mind at all!
I knew the day of my ultrasound appointment ahead of time, so I let my family and a few close friends know we were doing the party next day and if they could make it great, no pressure! It was at my mom’s place as she helped to throw the party with some appetizers, snacks and drinks of course! She also set up a table half pink half blue with some stickers to wear what gender you were guessing and a little box of name suggestions for boy or girl. It was super cute! And she put up a photo framed of me and Dylan and pasted a picture of baby from ultrasound in the middle. It was hilarious! I picked up the cake morning of and once everyone came over and had time to snack and mingle, we followed to the cake cutting. All our friends and family gathered round with cameras while we cut the cake together with the gender inside. And of course it was pink!!!!!!!! We were so happy, Baby girl:)
It was fun to be around family and close friends and start celebrating baby to be arrival without any pressure of bringing gifts etc. A super Instagram moment for sure, but we just did it for ourselves - I wasn’t even announcing yet on social media.
I have seen some different versions of this party. You don’t necessarily have to do it with dessert. You can fill balloons with blue or pink confetti and you pop it to find out the gender. Or you can put girly or boy balloon colours into a box and you open it. Or you can have a stick that pops out confetti. Or a smoker (pink or blue) - all of these I’ve seen on social media.
Note: Do not do this party if you are secretly hoping for a boy or girl. If you don’t get what you want, you may look a bit disapointed in front of a crowd…
In the end, it doesn’t matter. All you want is healthy, happy baby:)
